Farming is the branch of agriculture which deals with business on the farms. All the food comes from farming, may it be crops or the animals that are raised at farms. It is one of the most important occupations in the world. It can be classified into a few types like ranching, mixed farming, diversified farming etc.
Ranching - It is the practice of grazing animals on public lands. It can also be used for raising livestock. Ranching is very commonly found in Australia and Tibet. In India ranching is mostly found in hilly regions.
Single and Multi-crop Farming – It is a type of a specialized farming where a farmer specializes in crop enterprises and decides to raise single or multi-crop in accordance to the market requirements and to ensure optimum utilization of resources.
Dry and Irrigated Farming – It is found to be in places deficient in rainfall and where other sources of irrigation are not found. Due to deficiency of water, the land is hard and low in fertility. On the other hand irrigated farming is found to be in places where plenty of water is found.
Diversified Farming – It is referred to a type of farming in which a farmer raises more than 3-4 types of crops on the same farm. But it may result in poor resource utilization.
Mixed Farming – it is the combination of raising two different types of crops on the same farm. It is a special case of diversified farming. A typical case of mixed farming is crop cultivation and livestock farming.
